Otis Carey…Australian Indigenous Champion Surfer …………………..

Otis Carey’s story features in our first digital magazine…….

th80ALL4TL“The best part about being Aboriginal is I’m already gifted with a special spiritual bond to the land and the ocean, it’s not only my job, but in a way it’s like going home again. I’d love to put more effort into being able to teach young and old Indigenous people how toi surf. It’s so important for aboriginal people to stay connected to ocean in any way at all, and surfing is such a fun way to do that. I got so friggin stoked when a young Koori kid or any kid of any heritage approaches me on facebook or whatever and tells me how cool it was to see a picture of me surfing with the Koori flag on my surfboard.” Otis Carey

As an Indigenous champion surfer Otis travels the World following his passion. An individual who walks his own path he does things his way. From surfing his has picked up modeling work and graces the covers of magazines all over the World. With his good looks and down to earth personality Otis was approached by a young man named Patrick Pearse who works in documentary films of human interest pieces. He offered Otis a proposal to look over and was interested in doing a full length feature film on him. It was a year long project in the making of Kill the Matador.presentation_day2_indigenous14_lr

As a model for Chic Magazine, a budding actor and champion Surfer, Otis Carey is doing it his way. Not bad for a man who wasn’t sure what he wanted to do in life after leaving school. All he knew from a small age was the freedom and connection to culture surfing those waves. Find Otis’s story in Edition 6 out now.
